Mathematics at Wangi Wangi PS
The teaching and learning of mathematics occurs daily at WWPS. Students engage in explicit lessons that build their knowledge of number sense and algebra, measurement, geometry, and statistics and probability. At WWPS we have a deep focus on teaching the Big Ideas In Number. These big ideas are crucial milestones that all mathematical learning is built upon. During a typical mathematics session at WWPS, students will engage in:
Below are details of our practices and an overview of the evidence-based Big Ideas In Number.
Numeracy at home
You can support your child's development of core mathematics skills by engaging them in tasks around the home. The NSW Department of education's Every Day Maths Hub has some excellent ideas and resources.
Support can also be provided by understanding the conceptual stages of development your child will learn. We teach our students to be flexible and efficient mathematicians. This flexibility takes time to develop. Have a look at our WWPS Numeracy Overview for Parents for more information.
